The Northern Australian Conference is seeking a talented and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Accountant, based in Townsville.

As the Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in managing and overseeing the financial operations of the Northern Australian Conference and its affiliated entities. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and the General Secretary, you will support strategic leadership by ensuring accurate financial management, transparent reporting, and the faithful stewardship of entrusted resources.

The position is responsible for coordinating budgeting processes, monitoring financial performance, and maintaining strong financial accountability across Conference and School funds. In addition, the role provides oversight of the Adventist Book Centre, ensuring its financial and operational activities align with the mission, values, and strategic objectives of the Church.

Desirable Criteria

• Understanding of the organisational structure and operations of the Seventh‑day Adventist Church in the South Pacific.
• Have a working knowledge of standard Office software programs and accounting systems, and have a high level of computer literacy.
• Excellent time management and organisation skills and is able to work to deadlines.
• Be pro-active in identifying potential workflow problems and suggest possible solutions as appropriate.
• Take initiative, be self-motivated and have the ability to work under pressure.
• Possess outstanding attention to detail, having an ability to assess information critically, ensuring that outputs have a high level of accuracy.

Essential Criteria

• A practicing baptised member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a strong commitment to its mission. This would incorporate an active relationship with Jesus Christ characterised by a deep desire for worship and service to God.
• Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Finance/Accounting or other related degree, with extensive and successful financial management experience.
• Hold appropriate professional membership (CA, CPA, IPA).
• Proven background in financial management and accounting with appropriate business/ accounting/ management qualifications, ideally within the not-for-profit sector or comparable environment would be highly regarded.
• A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in oral presentations to large and small groups.
• A sound understanding of Information Technology and relevant applications as required by the tasks.
• Must be able to keep confidences and liaise with Key Communications and the general public in a pleasant and professional manner and a positive attitude.
