Seventh-day Adventist Schools (North New South Wales) is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and passionate Workshop Assistant to join our Avondale School Campus Team. This is a part-time position (15 hours a week) during school term time only.

Avondale School is a Preschool to Year 12 independent School, owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The school is located on an expansive rural campus in Cooranbong NSW, in the Lake Macquarie area. With a history of providing quality Christian education for over 120 years, our mission continues to focus on providing opportunities for students to know Christ, develop their full potential and cultivate a love of learning. We seek to use our extensive resources and skilled staff team to deliver innovative learning and wellbeing opportunities that engage students and develop curiosity. The successful applicant will:

  • Is supportive of the Christian ethos and values of Avondale School.
  • Experience working in a workshop, trade, manufacturing or maintenance environment.
  • Familiarity with woodworking, metalworking or general workshop tools.
  • Current First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Hold current a current WWCC clearance and a First Aid certificate. We are a child-safe organisation committed to protecting children's rights to safety, respect, inclusion, and empowerment. All applicants must hold a valid Working with Children Check and be willing to complete mandatory safeguarding training before working with children.
  • Legally able to work in Australia. Please not this position is not linked to a sponsorship visa. Those who cannot provide evidence to be legally able to work in Australia will not be considered.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials, tools and equipment for practical lessons.
  • Assist with setting up and packing away classroom activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.
  • Organise tools, consumables and storage areas.
  • Assist with stock control, ordering and inventory of materials.
  • Prepare timber, metals and other materials for student projects.
  • Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
  • Support teachers with workshop organisation.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Help create an efficient and welcoming learning environment for students and staff.
