Camp Howqua Catering Supervisor / Cook

The Victorian Conference is seeking a full-time Catering Supervisor / Cook to join our team at Camp Howqua.

Camp Howqua is an educational, recreational and camping facility owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The successful applicant will be expected to support and promote a lifestyle consistent with the Seventh-day Adventist Church mission, beliefs and values.

Specific Responsibilities

1.       Plan and create menus suitable to the needs of each group.

2.       Order stock and manage stock levels including effective rotation and waste management, keeping within a budget.

3.       Supervise and roster kitchen staff.

4.       Ensure all meals are prepared and ready as per programs.

5.       Operate and maintain kitchen equipment correctly and safely.

6.       Ensure a clean and organised kitchen during and after service.

7.       Ensure all kitchen practices always comply with or exceed Occupational Health and Safety as well as Food Safety laws and regulations.

8.       Undertake other duties as directed.

Mandatory Requirements

1.       Appropriate trade qualifications and/or extensive experience in fresh, high volume quality cooking.

2.       Current Food Handler’s Certificate to the level of Supervisor.

3.       Have a good understanding and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety and to Food Safety as it relates to a commercial kitchen environment.

4.       Able to always exercise confidentiality and discretion in dealing with staff and clients.

5.       Have the legal right to work in Australia and provide proof of this to the Employer on request.

6.       Provide a current national Police record with no relevant reportable outcomes to your Employer on request.

7.       Hold or be willing to obtain a current ‘Employee’ Victorian Working With Children Check linked to the Employer. It is the responsibility of the Employee to ensure this does not lapse nor is revoked whilst holding this position.

Key Selection Criteria/Skills Required

1.       Extensive experience in fresh, high volume quality cooking.

2.       Proven ability to plan menus with experience and skills in catering for both meat and vegetarian as well as diverse special dietary requirements.

3.       Ability to work within budgetary constraints.

4.       Strong customer focus with good interpersonal and communication skills.

5.       Work well unsupervised and harmoniously with a team, as well as to supervise others within your team.

6.       Proven ability to be creative and flexible.

7.       Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.

8.       An understanding of and commitment to Employer policies and procedures.
