Adsafe is a service of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific Division. Adsafe provides protective services for children and vulnerable adults across Seventh-day Adventist entities in Australia and New Zealand. The role of the Case Officer for Survivor Services is to provide trauma-informed case management services for survivors of abuse. This involves facilitating referrals to external counselling for survivors and their family members, providing information about legal or restorative justice pathways to survivors and their families, acting as the primary point of contact for a survivor throughout investigations, and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support risk assessment, case planning and the delivery of survivor-informed training and education.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  1. Report to the Team Leader Survivor Services and Redress on casework progress and outcomes, seek direction on applying policy and guidelines and compliance with reporting and notification obligations.
  2. Accurately assess the scope of a case, seek to efficiently apply available resources and effectively manage the client’s expectations on service delivery.
  3. Provide advice around justice options to clients.
  4. Provide advice around possible psychological support therapies.
  5. In consultation with the client create and continually revise as necessary an agreed case management plan for the support of the client.
  6. Actively refer clients to appropriate external support services to further develop the agreed case management plan and to ensure they are receiving effective assistance.
  7. Ensure timely and specialised case management is provided to survivors of contemporary and historic physical or sexual abuse by implementing the agreed case management plan.
  8. Actively seek guidance from other Senior Case Officers for clinical casework consultation.

Reporting

  1. Ensure that counsellors and psychologists engaged for client support are providing reports on a client's progress and updates to Adsafe on any suggested adjustment to the agreed case management plan.
  2. Meet with and provide written communication to the Team Leader Survivor Services and Redress as requested by Team Leader.
  3. Assist, when asked, in the preparation of reports for the Board and other external stakeholders.
  4. Provide case updates at all relevant meetings.
  5. Ensure that all notifications of alleged conduct received are entered in the Adsafe Case Work Database according to the published timeframes so that the intake process can adequately assess Adsafe's response.

Essential Criteria

  1. Supportive of the values, beliefs and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  2. Relevant tertiary qualification such as social work, social sciences, counselling, psychology, or equivalent.
  3. Strong understanding of case management principles and demonstrated ability to provide ethical, trauma informed, flexible and client-centred case management.
  4. Demonstrated experience in child protection trauma-informed case management, and the impact of trauma on survivors of abuse.
  5. High level interpersonal and written communication skills, including ability to influence, negotiate and relate to people at various levels.
  6. High level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  7. Proven communications and people management skills.
  8. Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as to work co-operatively within a team environment.
  10. Demonstrated ability to manage varying and/or conflicting stakeholder demands.
  11. Capacity to travel within NSW and interstate as required.
  12. Computer literacy particularly with Microsoft office suite and database systems.
  13. Willingness to undergo a National Criminal History check.
  14. Working with Children Check clearance.

Desirable Criteria

  1. A working knowledge and understanding of child protection in a religious or faith-based context.
  2. Experience in providing advice on the implementation of child protection compliance.
  3. Previous experience in a religious, Not-for-Profit or charitable organisation highly valued.
  4. Experience in developing and delivering trauma-informed training and education to a range of stakeholders.
