Trainer and Assessor – Outdoor Leadership

Avondale University is seeking a Trainer and Assessor for the Outdoor Leadership programs. This exciting role will have you providing classroom and outdoor training and assessment support to our students, feeding into the Avondale experience through stimulating learning and training techniques. The role may be either full-time or part-time and will be offered on a 3-year contract.

 

About the role

The Outdoor Leadership Trainer and Assessor provides training and assessment of students enrolled in Avondale’s Outdoor Leadership programs which include training from SIS30619; SIS40621; SIS50421 training packages.  They provide inputs into validation, program modelling and can be involved in delivery of short courses / activities on and off campus.

 

Some of the main duties will include:

  • Facilitate delivery of training and assessment associated with Avondale’s Outdoor leadership program as per the registered training scope relevant training packages in accordance with course rules and Vocational Education and Training (VET) requirements.
  • Manage the flow of learning and assessment materials to students enrolled in the outdoor leadership SIS training packages and other outdoors short courses/activities.
  • Use Moodle for student assessments for each of the units of competency offered by Avondale, in the SIS40621 Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership and SIS50421 Diploma of Outdoor Leadership.
  • Outdoor leadership Trainers and Assessors will be expected to explain, demonstrate and assess skills and content outlined in the units of SIS training packages in both on campus and off campus sites as required and, on some weekends, as scheduled.
  • Mark students’ assessments and provide meaningful feedback on assessment results in a timely manner using the assessors marking guidelines.
  • Outdoor Leadership Trainers and Assessors will be expected to instruct and administer short courses when they become available with the use of online learning resources. Trainers and Assessors will be expected to facilitate these courses at distance and at appropriate sites for practical assessments.  This includes working off site and over weekends.
  • Outdoor Leadership Trainers and Assessors will work with support and direction from the course convener carrying out administrative assistance functions such as coordinating work placement, maintaining and developing the online Moodle resources (including software such as articulate, h5p, scorm etc), commensurate with their ability but with increasing degrees of autonomy as they gain skill and experience.
  • Outdoor Leadership Trainers and Assessors will work with support and direction from the course convener carrying out assessments and collating and preparing results for the Course Committee and the VET Board.
  • Assist the course convener in the promotion of courses and department activities.

 

About you

You are a dynamic and responsible person with a positive attitude. You will be willing to work flexible hours as required off campus and for overnight expedition; and have a passion for delivering quality learning and teaching.  You will also understand and have experience in local locations where practical outdoors training can be done selected skills areas like bushwalking, canoeing, kayaking, abseiling, and climbing.

Salary: Level 5 or Level 6, depending on qualifications and experience.

Level 5 $66,146 – $74,021 per annum, plus superannuation.

Level 6 $74,567 – $83,316 per annum, plus superannuation.
