Brief description of role

Adsafe is a service of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific Division. Adsafe provides protective services for children and vulnerable adults across Seventh-day Adventist entities in Australia, New Zealand, and the wider South Pacific region.

The role of the Learning and Development Officer is to develop, implement and deliver Adsafe’s safeguarding framework to protect children and vulnerable adults.  This includes the development and delivery of training to employees and volunteers in SDA churches and denominational entities across Australia and New Zealand in collaboration with the wider Adsafe team.

This will be a full-time role with part-time considered for the successful applicant if applicable and reports to the Team Leader of Safeguarding Services.

Essential Criteria

  1. Practising baptised member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a strong commitment to its mission and lifestyle; and be eligible to hold the appropriate Church licence.
  2. Tertiary qualifications in one or more fields of teaching, adult education, instructional design, and/or 3+ years recent experience in a training and development specialist role.
  3. Experience with the designing, planning, scheduling, and delivery of training to a range of learner audiences.
  4. Experience working with eLearning software tools and in designing and developing e-learning courses.
  5. Ability to build relationships with internal and external subject matter experts and other stakeholders.
  6. Ability to explain concepts simply and make them easily understood by a range of age and culturally diverse stakeholder groups using a range of learning solutions.
  7. Ability to create evaluation systems to ensure quality control.
  8. Sound knowledge of adult-education, learning styles, and various teaching methods and strategies.
  9. Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, and multimedia that supports learning objectives.
  10. An understanding of basic graphic design concepts.
  11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  12. Current driver’s licence and ability to undertake occasional travel.
  13. Willingness to undergo a National Criminal History check.
  14. Evidence of right to work in Australia.

Desirable Criteria

  1. A working knowledge and understanding of the church and its management throughout the South Pacific Division.
  2. Understanding of legislation and standards in child safe practices, responding to abuse and maintaining safe environments for children and people at risk.
  3. An understanding of trauma and its impact on survivors and ability to provide training to stakeholders on impacts of abuse and trauma informed responses.
