An exciting opportunity now exists for a successful candidate to join our South Queensland Conference Education finance team, based in our Brisbane head office. Seventh-day Adventist Schools (South Queensland) Ltd operates seven schools and two early learning centres in South Queensland, all part of the growing Education ministry of the Conference. We are looking for a qualified accountant to join our head office finance team on a full-time basis, to support the ministry of each of these segments across the Conference.
The accountant’s role would involve working collaboratively with our Education Finance Manager and other members of our finance team, to provide professional support to all elements of our education ministry.
This would include accounting areas such as payroll, operating and capital reporting, preparation of financial statements and other accounting responsibilities as may be assigned.
The applicant ideally should be a practicing member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but if not, they should be a committed Christian and be willing to agree and support the ideals and objectives of the Seventh-day Adventist Church as demonstrated in the operations of our education ministry.
Application Requirements
The successful applicant should be able to meet / demonstrate the following:
- Possess a tertiary Business/Accounting Degree and be a member of or eligible to be a member of a
recognized accounting professional organization in Australia (CA / CPA).
- Be able to demonstrate strong experience and skills in financial management and general administration.
- Previous financial management and accounting experience in an educational framework, while not
essential for this position, would be an advantage.
- Possess strong and competent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word,
Outlook and Teams) as well as a school and system-based accounting ledger system.
- The applicant must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbally and in written form, and be able to apply such skills in providing financial support to our schools and early learning segments as well as all staff both at head office and school based.
- Strong and modern management and leadership skills should be present in the applicant to enable positive outcomes to be achieved at all times.
- The applicant should be well organized and structured in their approach to assigned responsibilities and be able to demonstrate strong time management skills and other administrative skills, essential for this finance position.

Education Payroll Officer – South Queensland Conference
A full-time senior finance position has become available with the South Queensland Conference finance team based in our Brisbane office. The successful applicant will be responsible for payroll operations covering our Education system.
Working in support of our Education ministry team will be a challenging and rewarding role, supporting a core valued ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Queensland Conference.
While desirable, it is not essential that the applicant be a practicing member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, however they will need to agree to the general professional expectations in support of the Seventh-day Adventist Church as outlined in the Position Profile
Application Requirements
- Possess extensive knowledge, skills and current experience in the following:
- General finance areas including accounting principles, ledger transactions, data entry and reconciliations.
- Computer skills including the use of accounting ledger packages, Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams).
- Current experience in using payroll software packages and familiarity with the use and function of salary Awards, Enterprise Agreements and other payroll issues.
- Have completed further education courses relevant to this finance role (preferred but not essential).
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to care for a designated finance task without close supervision, including the ability to meet critical deadlines for such assigned work.
- Possess relational and communication skills to deal effectively with staff in various roles of our Education system.
- Be prepared to accept a variety of roles and exciting challenges as part of our finance team, furthering the mission of the church in South Queensland.
