The successful applicant will demonstrate:

Core Competencies:

  • Must be a practicing baptised member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a strong commitment to its mission. This would incorporate an active relationship with Jesus Christ characterised by a deep desire for worship and service to God.
  • An understanding and commitment to the purpose and ethos of Adventist Education and the Church as described by Adventist Schools Australia and our statements of belief Statements of Belief
  • Hold appropriate accounting academic qualifications (degree level) and hold membership with a professional accounting body such as CPA or CA.
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles and practices and be able to provide advice and support to the other financial personnel.
  • Be familiar with the accounting processes, relevant internal policies and accounting standards.
  • Be computer literate and possess experience in the use of relevant computer-based accounting package(s) and have an intermediate to advanced level of proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of software, specifically the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet package and a basic level of proficiency in Caseware.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to maintain professional relationships with the local school finance and administration teams.
  • Be able to work to deadlines and under pressure and be able to motivate the finance team to do the same.
    Committed to child safety by providing a safe culture, safe operations and a safe environment. Only applicants with a Working With Children Check (WWCC) will be considered for this role.
  • Legally able to work in Australia. This is not a position that is subject to a sponsorship visa
     

Specific Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in formulating budgetary and accounting policies.
  • Preparing financial reports for presentation to Board of directors, management, stakeholders, and governing and statutory bodies.
  • Conducting financial investigations, preparing reports, undertaking audits and advising on matters such as the capital financing, suspected fraud and taxation within the context of relevant accounting standards, ATO regulations and other industry specific legislation.
  • Analysing operating costs and organisation income and expenditure.
  • Providing assurance about the accuracy of information contained in financial reports and their compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Introducing and maintaining accounting systems, and advising on the selection and application of computer-based accounting systems.
  • Maintaining internal control systems.
  • Providing assistance and backup of the payroll function.
  • Assisting with cash management functionality.
  • Assisting with accounting and other compliance audits.
  • Keeping track of government funding and preparing pertinent reconciliations as required.
  • Appraise cash flow and financial risk of capital investment projects accountable for assisting with meeting challenging KPIs and team targets.
  • Develop and maintain insurance schedules.
  • Other tasks as delegated by Finance Manager and Senior Accountant.
  • Must have a current driver’s license.

Salary Range
