Term: Fixed-term, full-time basis (12-month contract, with view to ongoing employment subject to review)

 About Camp Somerset

Camp Somerset is an Outdoor Education and Recreation Facility owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in South Queensland. Situated on 1,000 acres of bushland and rainforest on Somerset Dam, it offers a range of activities and accommodation options year-round. Guests can choose from comfortable cabins and lodges with resort-style pools or enjoy expeditions and camping at scenic waterfront or bush campsites.

 

About the role

This full-time Outdoor Instructor position delivers outdoor education activities for schools and groups under the direction of the Senior Program Coordinator, Program Coordinator and Camp Coordinator. The role also assists with program development, activity training and sign-off processes, activity and site maintenance, administration and guest services.

The successful applicant does not need to be a practising member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but must be committed to its mission and prepared to support its ideals and beliefs. They will work co-operatively with staff and management to deliver safe, high-quality programs and positive outcomes for guests and ministry at Camp Somerset.

 

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver outdoor activities for schools and groups safely and professionally
  • Assist with the development and operation of outdoor education programs
  • Support activity training, assessment and sign-off processes where applicable
  • Maintain activity equipment, program areas and sites as required
  • Assist with program coordination, administration, promotion and guest services

 

Skills and Experience in the Outdoor Industry

  • Sound working knowledge of the outdoor industry and experience assisting with programs
  • Effective communication, teamwork and organisational skills
  • Sound understanding of activity maintenance and safe operating practices
  • Basic word processing and office administration experience is advantageous

 

Qualifications

  • Certificate III or above in Outdoor Leadership, or an equivalent qualification
  • Current Working with Children Blue Card and First Aid Certificate; driver, marine and relevant activity qualifications are desirable
