Head of Boys’ Dorm
Longburn Adventist College
Educating for Eternity
Longburn Adventist College Boarding House (“LAC House”) is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Seventh-day Adventist Christian who can be a father and spiritual figure to approximately 25 boys aged 10 – 18. This position is not considered “just a job”, but a “calling”.
This exciting opportunity would suit a service-orientated person passionate about creating a family environment for domestic and international boarding students. This role will encompass a range of responsibilities and administrative requirements and will suit someone who puts relationships first and has excellent communication and organisational skills.
You will work with the Boarding Director and be responsible for a small team of assistant deans who will assist you in the day-to-day running of the Boys’ Dorm. You will provide a nurturing environment and second home for boys from within New Zealand and overseas.
Your colleagues and the boarding students will require you to take ownership of the boys’ dorm, be a spiritual leader and uphold the college’s special Seventh-day Adventist character, always in the context of coming to the “foot of the Cross”.
Due to the nature of this role, hours of work are likely to be varied and will include time in the evenings and weekends.
Success in this role is where you will be able to help people navigate the boarding
experience, become a part of the LAC House family, and achieve the core mission of the
College. The successful applicant will:
● be a practising and committed member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
● have a genuine heart and commitment to Jesus
● have a nurturing spiritual disposition reflecting the ethos of the college and boarding
house
● have strong relational skills working alongside teenagers
● be a resilient leader to lead a team
● have the ability to work with a wide range of cultures
● have appropriate interpersonal and management skills with young people
● be able to communicate with parents, students, and colleagues
● have strong organisational skills to coordinate rosters and events
● be able to work with the Boarding Director and Senior Leadership
