As the Education Accountant, you will promote the growth and spiritual development of the Finance Ministry for Education. You will assist the Assistant Chief Financial Officer in managing day-to-day financial operations.

Position Title: Education Accountant (Parental Leave Cover)
Location: Greater Sydney Conference, Seventh-day Adventist Schools (Greater Sydney) Ltd
Term: 18-Month Parental Leave Cover
Responsible to: Assistant Chief Financial Officer

The Greater Sydney Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church serves as the administrative headquarters for the church’s work in the Greater Sydney region. As a Christ-centered community, our mission is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serve the community through various ministries, including Adventist Education. We are seeking a dedicated, qualified Education Accountant to support our mission and contribute to the growth and financial stewardship of Adventist Education in the region. Financial Operations:
  • Process month-end journals and manage bank accounts, including cash management and reconciliations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of ledgers, and lead the schools' audit processes.
  • Coordinate the workflow of staff to ensure data processing is up to date.
  • Generate tax invoices as required and manage the import of school ledgers each month.
  • Maintain high standards of ledger integrity and financial accuracy.
  Reporting:
  • Prepare monthly management reports for individual schools and the consolidated entity.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets in consultation with each local school.
  • Prepare annual financial statements, trend reports, and ad-hoc reports for other departments (e.g., marketing, ICT).
  • Organize documentation for audits and assist with the preparation of financial aspects of BOSTES reports.
Other Duties:
  • Conduct regular school visitations to advise bursars on financial processes.
  • Act as a backup for the payroll email account and perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • A degree in business or accounting, or equivalent tertiary qualification and/or experience.
  • Must be a practising, baptised member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a strong commitment to its mission and values.
  • Completed or working towards CPA/CA qualification.
Core Competencies:
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with the preparation and presentation of financial reports.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Micropay, SUN, MAZE).
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-organised and able to meet deadlines.
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving workflow challenges.
Desirable
  • Experience in payroll processes
  • Experience in ERP systems
Terms and Conditions:
  • The role is subject to ongoing satisfactory performance.
  • A performance review will take place after the first 6 months, with formal appraisals annually.
  • Remuneration will be in accordance with the Division Wage Schedule.
  • Relocation allowances are available when required.
