Avondale University is seeking to appoint Director of Advancement.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, this position will focus on providing strategic leadership, practical expertise and operational support to the communications, marketing, student recruitment events, promotion and fundraising functions in the service of the Avondale University community.

 

What will you do?

Some of the main duties will include:

  • Provide leadership to the communications, marketing, student recruitment events, promotion and fundraising team to meet operational goals
  • Coordinate the development of integrated communication strategies and business plans, related budgets and performance metrics for the operational areas of communications, marketing, and advancement in consultation with the Avondale administration, to ensure alignment of purpose
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and ongoing management of communication and media activities
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and ongoing management of the organisation’s marketing and student recruitment activities
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and ongoing management the organisation’s alumni, advancement and fundraising activities
  • Oversee the development, implementation and ongoing management of the organisation’s brand strategy in all mediums and channels
  • Network with and support other Avondale departments at a strategic and tactical level in relation to Avondale University’s communication strategy and delivery
  • Develop and maintain an effective communication network with Avondale’s principal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate media interest in the organisation and develop and maintain a database of experts and networks
  • Oversee the editorial direction of the design, production and distribution of all communications, marketing, and advancement collateral including print and electronic

 

About you

To be successful in the Director of Advancment role, you will be highly motivated, enthusiastic and confident, and have the ability to provide effective leadership in a continually changing environment.

 

Essential criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills
  • Significant industry experience in communications and/or marketing at executive and operational levels
  • Demonstrated strong creative, strategic, analytical, organisational and interpersonal  skills
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing high level business plans and related budgets
  • Executive experience in establishing and achieving personal and team professional performance goals
  • Demonstrate an understanding of market trends in higher education and/or an ability to apply experience and skills to this sector
  • Experience in the engagement, development, supervision and appraisal of staff at an executive level
  • Ability to utilise various relevant digital technologies
  • Willingness to travel when required to engage personally with key stakeholders of the organisation
  • Support the mission, values, and ethos of Avondale

 

Desirable criteria

  • At least five years’ experience in the key operational areas at an executive level in higher education
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross functional teams
  • Direct professional experience in market research and related data analysis
  • Understanding of the role of social media in a marketing and communications context
