Assistant Accountant – Treasury

About the role:

The Seventh-day Adventist Church (SPD) Ltd is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Assistant Accountant to become an integral member of  our Treasury team. Based at the Division head office in Wahroonga NSW, this full-time role will:

  • process and examine financial data,
  • provide quality financial information,
  • prepare financial statements of 2 small ledgers, and
  • assisting with accurate payroll processing and backup.

As result, you will gain rich experience in significant Division treasury functions and develop a deeper understanding of the Church’s financial management systems and methodology. Additionally, you will provide adhoc support to the treasury team including accounts payable, receivable, and providing input on financial procedures and processes of the team. 

Remuneration ranges from $86K plus superannuation.

Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • Must be a practising baptised member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a strong commitment to its mission, values, and beliefs.
  • Eligible to hold the appropriate license with the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, accounting or commerce, and working towards a CPA/CA membership.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an accounting related role, with some experience assisting with financial statements.
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles and practice.
  • Computer literate and possess experience in the use of relevant accounting software packages and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred

  • A sound understanding and knowledge of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific Division, including its structure and management across the organisation.
  • Be familiar with the accounting processes associated with the preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
  • A basic  working  understanding  of  Australian  Accounting  Standards, Taxation  Law,  Corporate Law, Commercial and General Business Law as it applies to the operations of  the South Pacific Division.  
  • Working knowledge of Australian employment legislation and its application to payroll, including Award and Agreement coverage.
  • Familiarity with the role of South Pacific Division Policy and SPD Accounting Methods.
