Brief description of role

Adsafe is a service of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific Division. Adsafe provides protective services for children and vulnerable adults across Seventh-day Adventist entities in Australia, New Zealand and the wider South Pacific region.

 

The role of the Senior Investigation Officer is to investigate any concerns, disclosures, or allegations within Adsafe’s scope in a procedurally fair, impartial and professional manner. Adsafe’s scope includes disclosures of sexual and physical abuse of children and vulnerable adults, as well as allegations of reportable conduct in jurisdictions where reportable conduct schemes exist. This involves planning investigations, communicating sensitively with entity leaders and investigation participants, conducting witness interviews, gathering other evidence, drafting allegations, conducting respondent interviews and writing comprehensive investigation reports analysing the evidence and setting out clear findings of fact and breach of policy. It also involves within different jurisdictional legislative frameworks and relevant policies to ensure that reporting, investigation and risk management obligations are fulfilled.

 

Based at the South Pacific Division head office in Wahroonga NSW, this will be full-time, 2 year fixed-term contract, reporting to the Operations Manager, Adsafe.

 

Essential Criteria

1.     Must be supportive of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, its mission, beliefs and lifestyle.

2.     Relevant qualifications in law, policing or workplace investigations.

3.     Demonstrated experience in complaint handling and undertaking workplace investigations, ideally relating to reportable conduct (child protection) matters.

4.     A working knowledge of reportable conduct schemes and child protection legislation in Australia and New Zealand.

5.     Demonstrated case management / project management skills.

6.     High level interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to influence, negotiate and relate to people at various levels within the Seventh-day Adventist Church and other external organisations.

7.     Demonstrated high level investigation report writing skills.

8.     High level of organisation with exceptional attention to detail.

9.     High level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

10.   Proven leadership, communications and people management skills.

11.   Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and work under pressure.

12.   Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as to work co-operatively in a team environment.

13.   Ability to think strategically and contribute to strategy development.

14.   Demonstrated ability to manage varying and/or conflicting stakeholder demands.

15.   Capacity to travel within Australia and New Zealand as required and possibly other countries of the SPD.

16.   Computer literacy particularly with Microsoft office suite and database use.

17.   Willingness to undergo a National Criminal History check.

 

Desirable Criteria

1.     Specialist knowledge and understanding of child protection in a religious context.

2.     Experience in investigative interviewing of children.

3.     Understanding of trauma and its impact on survivors, and demonstrated experience in trauma-informed case management.

4.     Previous experience in a not-for profit and/or faith-based organisation highly regarded.

5.     A working knowledge and understanding of the Seventh-day Adventist church and its management throughout the SPD.
