Avondale University is seeking applications for a part-time, 12-18 hours per week, Administrative Assistant, to join the Ellen G. White Research Centre on the Lake Macquarie campus.
About the Role
This important role is responsible for providing operational and administrative support for the EG White Centre at Avondale on the Lake Macquarie campus.
What will you do?
- Provide administrative support to the Director of the EG White/SDA Research Centre
- Perform administrative activities within the department office (including stationery supplies and office equipment)
- Maintain the Centre in a neat and tidy condition
- Performs clerical functions on behalf of the Centre including reception - word processing – spreadsheets – power point – photocopying - scanning
- Perform general accounts functions
- Ensure the sufficient supplies of books are available to students
- Oversee cataloguing and indexing of books and files
- Respond to general inquiries about resources
- Provide general advice and assistance to clients using the Centre, and direct questions on Ellen White’s work, writing, inspiration etc. as well as questions on denominational history or theological issues to the Centre Director
- Digitising and database entry
- Website creation and management (WordPress)
- Content creation and oversight of social media sites (Canva, Facebook, Instagram)
About you
To be successful in the Administrative Assistant role, you will be a highly motivated individual with great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Criteria
- Hold recognised qualifications in Office Administration, Secretarial (or similar) disciplines
- Be supportive of the mission, values, and ethos of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Avondale University College
- Hold a basic knowledge and understanding of the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
- Have experience in office administration and in particular providing support and assistance to management in an educational environment
- Have strong communication (written and verbal), organisational and numeracy skills
- Have PC and Mac skills
- Be highly motivated and eager to learn and results driven
- Demonstrate an ability to comfortably and effectively liaise with all levels of staff and management
- Have strong customer service ethic
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality and diplomacy
- Be able to work as part of a team and equally as well working independently
- Be able to identify boundaries in work skills and refer matters when required
Desirable Criteria
- Have a minimum of twelve (12) months work experience in an executive office environment

Salary: Avondale Higher Education Worker Level 3 $32.87 - $36.97 per hour, plus superannuation.
