Human Resources Manager – NZPUC, Auckland:

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in New Zealand is seeking a passionate and experienced Human Resources Manager to provide strategic and operational HR function across our ministries and offices in New Zealand. This is a unique opportunity to serve God and His people by supporting our teams and strengthening our workplace culture.

The role of the Human Resources Manager is a full-time position based at the Church head office in Howick, Auckland, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to the mission of the SDA Church across New Zealand.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has proven HR experience (preferably in the not-for-profit or faith-based sector)
  • Can provide expert advice on recruitment, employment relations, performance, and policy

Key responsibilities:

The Position Title’s responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the management of talent attraction and recruitment processes, as well as the orientation, onboarding, and exit procedures, ensuring they maintain a high level of professionalism and positively represent the organisation.
  • Draft employment contracts in accordance with the New Zealand employment legislation and Church policies.
  • Implement an effective and tailored induction programme for the organisation, catering to the diverse needs of our employees, and strive to ensure that employees rate their induction experience as positive.
  • Efficiently and effectively onboard new employees, streamlining the process for maximum effectiveness.
  • Play a key role in integrating HR technology to enhance the efficiency of employee lifecycle processes, with a focus on reducing manual tasks.
  • Analyse HR trends and metrics, using this data to develop innovative solutions, programmes, and policies.
  • Ensure that Personal Service Records (PSRs) are maintained and updated for all Church employees at all times.
  • Coordinate performance appraisal across the Church Institutions in New Zealand.
  • To work in collaboration with the Secretaries to develop policies, practices, and procedures that are appropriate for the Seventh-day Adventist Church and in harmony with the relevant legislative instruments.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to our staff by providing timely and accurate responses to general HR enquiries.
  • Provide administrative support and generate reports throughout the entire employment lifecycle, contributing to the efficient functioning of HR processes.
  • Contribute to the establishment of a secure environment for visitors, volunteers, and staff by implementing relevant Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate various staff-related activities, including staff surveys, First Aid training, and other workplace health and safety requirements.

 

Key requirements:

The successful applicant will meet these selection criteria:

  • Must be a practicing, baptised member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a strong commitment to its mission. This would incorporate an active relationship with Jesus Christ characterised by a deep desire for worship and service to God.
  • Hold appropriate degree in HR or related discipline and typically be working towards further postgraduate qualifications or membership of a professional HR body.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in Human Resource Management with a demonstrated application of contemporary HR procedures and practices.
  • A good working knowledge of the Church, its structure, and its operations throughout NZ.
  • Must be able to liaise with the general public, as well as church employees and members in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in oral presentations to large and small groups.
  • Good understanding of the New Zealand employment requirements and legislations, and ability to draft employment contracts in accordance with NZ legislations and Church working policies.
  • Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, including strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with sensitive issues whilst maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Must hold a current Working with Children’s Check clearance and meet Adsafe requirements.
