    The Seventh-day Adventist Church (SPD) Limited is seeking a highly organised Archives Assistant to support the Adventist Heritage Centre in the collection, preservation, conservation and restoration of records pertaining to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in this region. The Archives Assistant will also be a point of contact for those seeking records in accordance with church policy and procedure.

    Reporting to the Adventist Heritage Director, this part-time role will be working up to 24 hours per week, and be based at the Adventist Heritage Centre offices in Cooranbong NSW.

    The Adventist Heritage Centre’s purpose is to maintain, build and increase understanding of the Seventh-day Adventist Church narrative by presenting the contributions made to the communities in the South Pacific Division. It does this by preserving and showcasing historic sites and artifacts, maintaining accurate storage of records in accordance with legislation and policy, developing research opportunities based on the collection, and developing business and service opportunities.

    The ideal candidate will have the following key selection criteria:

    Essential:

    1. Practising, baptised member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a strong commitment to its mission, values and beliefs.
    2. Have or be eligible to hold the appropriate Seventh-day Adventist Church licence.
    3. A genuine interest in and understanding of the heritage and archives sector.
    4. Qualified in Archives, Records Management or in a similar field from a recognised tertiary institution.
    5. Demonstrated capacity to provide efficient and effective administrative support, with minimal supervision.
    6. A working knowledge of the church and its management throughout the SPD.
    7. Ability to work cohesively in a team and be supportive of the wider organisation’s strategic direction for Adventist Heritage.
    8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    9. Organised, with the ability to demonstrate initiative and be self-motivated.
    10. High level of integrity and discretion in accordance with the Australian Society of Archivists Code of Ethics.
    11. Implementing procedures for the acquisition, processing and preservation of archival materials.
    12. Knowledge of research methodology, automated storage and retrieval systems, electronic records and publications.
    13. Skill in searching and maintaining online and other electronic retrieval systems.
    14. Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with people from varied roles and backgrounds.
    15. Ability to assess objectives and operational requirements and implement operational policies and procedures.

    Preferred:

    1. Eligible to become a Professional Member of the Australian Society of Archivists.
    2. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of best practice in archives and records management procedures.
    3. Knowledge of available sources of archival materials.
